Family Support

BEHIND EVERY FIREFIGHTER IS A FAMILY WHO SERVES TOO

When the alarm sounds, firefighters answer the call. But behind every FIREFIGHTER is a family - spouses, children, parents and loved ones - who serve in their own way. The long shifts, missed holidays, unpredictable hours, and silent worry at home are part of the fire family journey. At Breaking Bread, we recognize that families carry just as much of the weight, and they deserve support, community, and care too.

WHY FAMILY SUPPORT MATTERS

Firefighter families face unique challenges:
-
Unpredictable schedules - birthdays, holidays, and milestones often happen without your loved one present.
 -
Silent worry - every time they walk out the door, you wonder if they'll come home safe.
 -
Stress at home - balancing household responsibilities, children, and life while your Firefighter serves.
 -
Emotional aftershocks - calls don't just impact the Firefighter; they can affect the whole family.
 -
Mental Health - getting resources to help understand who your firefighter may be going through.

Family support creates a safe place to share these experiences, connect with others who understand, and find resources that bring strength and comfort.

HOW WE SUPPORT FAMILIES

Safe Space Sessions - confidential group or one-on-one sessions where spouses, partners and children can connect and share.
Resources & Education - information about stress, trauma, resilience, and how to support your Firefighter (and yourself) during hard times.
Community Connection - events, meet-ups, and peer groups that remind you: you are not alone in this journey.
Children & Teen Support - age-appropriate resources and activities to help kids understand and cope with the challenges of having a firefighter parent.

The fire service is more than a job. It is a family. That includes the ones waiting at home, holding everything together, and quietly carrying the burden of sacrifice. You are seen. You are valued. You don't have to walk this road alone.

At Breaking Bread, we stand with firefighters and their families because healing and strength come when we all support each other.
